Benefits At a Glance

Thinking about fostering? It’s natural to wonder what support you’ll have along the way. At Fostering Rotherham, we know how important it is to feel secure and supported when you’re thinking about taking that next step. That’s why we believe in being upfront about the practical, emotional and financial support available to you.

Every new foster carer is a reason to celebrate. That’s why we’ve built a wraparound support package that reflects what really matters to our 100+ brilliant carers: trusted relationships; strong community; practical help and meaningful financial support. Here’s what that looks like day-to-day…

A dedicated team that will be with you every step of the way

From the moment you start your assessment, you’ll have a dedicated assessing social worker. Once approved, you’ll have a supervising social worker, who will get to know you and support you throughout.

Our home match team is here for day-to-day support, including arranging second-home care and emergency cover.

Whether you need face-to-face help, a listening ear, or advice, we’re here for you. All our teams work closely together so you won’t be passed from pillar to post. You’ll get clear, timely communication and support that feels personal.

Financial support that reflects the important role you’ll play

We know how much love, time and energy goes into fostering - and we believe you should feel secure and supported, both emotionally and financially. Our financial support reflects your experience, meets day-to-day needs, and eases some of life’s pressures along the way.

Most of our foster carers receive between £331 and £705 a week, depending on their experience and the needs of the child. But that’s not all. On top of your weekly fee, you’ll also receive:

  • Up to £1,032 a year towards birthday celebrations, cultural holidays and family breaks.

  • 14 days of paid annual leave, supported by another, wonderful second-home care family.

  • 45p/mile on transport costs to take the child in your care where they need to go.

  • Discounted access to activities, attractions and everyday savings.

  • Additional flexible allowances for things like clothing, school uniform or equipment at the start of your home match.

A community of foster carers that will have your back

Nothing helps quite like support from somebody who has been in your shoes! From the moment you’re approved, we’ll connect you with a fostering buddy and a wider community of local foster carers who understand what it’s like.

There’s a full social calendar throughout the year, including walking sessions and support groups focused on wellbeing. Whether it’s sharing advice or sharing a coffee and a cake, you’ll always have people around you who get it.

Training designed to build your skills and confidence

You don’t need to be a parenting expert to get started. Our training is here to help you feel prepared from day one. You’ll begin with Skills to Foster, a friendly, practical introduction to what fostering involves,  and go on to access a full programme of ongoing training that will fit around you.

Your supervising social worker will recommend different training sessions throughout your journey. As your skills grow, your financial support will too.

Opportunity to change children’s lives, not postcodes

When a child in care can stay close to everything they know - school, friends, local places - it makes a world of difference. That’s why we’re so passionate about recruiting more local foster carers.

Every new carer in Rotherham helps us keep children connected to their community. It means less disruption and more of the stability that makes children feel safe, secure and at home.

If you’d like to help us achieve this mission, we’d love to hear from you! For more information on our support and benefits, you can also download our Benefits at a Glance guide.
