Brian is a single foster carer of two children in Rotherham.
Brian was never worried being single might reduce his chances of being able to foster and although it comes with its challenges, he has a good support network of foster carers: “My circle of friends has changed a great deal.”
Brian told us: “They support me in many ways from meeting up to do children’s activities to sometimes just helping me over the phone.”
Advice for prospective foster carers
We asked Brian what advice he would give to other single people interested in fostering. He told us:
"Give it a go, it changes your life completely. It opens new doors career wise. It’s very rewarding, you get the chance to meet some very nice caring foster carers.
You get to watch your [foster] child/children grow and change because of the work you do, a feeling I can’t find the words for.
You find support in places in people you wouldn’t have thought. If I can do it then anyone can do it.”
