Take a look back at Foster Care Fortnight 2025

What is Foster Care Fortnight?

Foster Care Fortnight is an annual campaign by The Fostering Network, celebrating the incredible difference that foster carers make to the lives of children in care. This year, the campaign took place between May 12 and 25 and focused on the Power of Relationships.  We took part in and organised some wonderful events to celebrate, and here are a few highlights!

How did we celebrate Foster Care Fortnight 2025?

Women of the World Festival

We were proud to be part of the WOW Festival in Rotherham, which shines a light on the achievements of women and girls, including those making a difference in fostering. It was an inspiring celebration of community and empowerment, values at the heart of everything we do.

Wentworth Woodhouse Walk

We enjoyed a scenic walk around the stunning grounds of Wentworth Woodhouse. A chance for carers, families and staff to connect and enjoy some fresh air, sun and great company.

Evening Walk at Thrybergh Country Park

We also took a peaceful evening stroll around Thrybergh Country Park. It was a simple but meaningful way for foster carers, staff and supporters to come together, unwind and remember what a supportive, caring community we’re all part of.

Business Networking with Rotherham Hospital Charity

On top of spending some time in nature, we joined forces with Rotherham Hospital Charity to invite local businesses to a networking event. It helped us connect with local organisations and spread the word about fostering. Most importantly, we’ve created partnerships that help us build a stronger support system for the children and families we work with.

Rotherham Fostering Family Festival at Thrybergh

One of the highlights of the fortnight! We brought together fostering families, children in care and our incredible team for a Fostering Family Festival. Complete with games, picnics, and plenty of sunshine, it was a day filled with laughter, celebration and connection. A huge thank you to everyone who came and made it so special.

Coffee Morning at the Town Hall

This regular event is important for our community, so we had to include it in the celebrations! We organise coffee mornings frequently as they offer foster carers a safe, welcoming space to share experiences, swap advice, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

Whether it was chatting about daily life or celebrating little wins, the room was full of warmth, laughter and support. It’s these small but powerful connections that help foster carers feel seen, valued and never alone in their journey.

Lilo & Stitch Cinema Screening

What better way to wrap up Foster Care Fortnight than with a special cinema screening for our fostering families? We headed to Arc Cinema for a private showing of Lilo & Stitch, a film that reminds us all about the power of chosen family and unconditional love, two things that sit at the heart of fostering.

There was popcorn, plenty of giggles and a whole lot of joy as children, foster carers, and staff came together for a shared experience. These moments are more than just a treat, they help build memories, strengthen bonds, and remind us of the happiness that fostering can bring to everyone involved.
