What is Foster Care Fortnight?
Foster Care Fortnight is an annual campaign created by The Fostering Network which celebrates foster carers and their communities as they provide a supportive environment for looked after children to thrive. Foster Care Fortnight 2023 took place from 15-28 May.
How did we celebrate Foster Care Fortnight 2023?
We had a number of events in the community for Foster Care Fortnight 2023:
Rotherham 10k run
Our fostering team and some of our foster carers took part in the Rotherham 10k this year in our branded t-shirts. We also had an event stand to talk to potential foster carers about fostering and how to take those first few steps to become one.
Pampering event for foster carers
We were lucky enough to be able to plan a pampering event for our lovely foster carers at Rotherham College and Dearne Valley College. The event provided a nice relaxing time for our carers.
Spring splash and picnic
Our foster carers and looked after children were encouraged to bring their own picnics for a great day out at Langold Park in the splash park and outdoor play area.
Fostering party in Wickersley
The fostering community was invited to a party at Wickersley Cricket Club. There was a disco and plenty of party food to keep everyone in high spirits and connect together as a community.
Cake decorating competition
Looked after children took part in a cake decoration competition at one of the local youth clubs. Everyone had lots of fun and there were some amazing contenders!
There were lots of other smaller events and fostering event stands happening around Rotherham this year too.
